Return to the Earth Moon

New moons are my favorite. Full moons are great, too. But there’s so much unknown, so much possibility and creative opportunity in a new moon. Return to the Earth Moon has many names. It usually happens in September. This particular moment of darkness and new beginnings actually focuses on decay.

Trees change color and lose their leaves, and the leaves fall to the earth to rest during the winter, and become compost that nourishes new growth in the spring. Some First People call this Salmon Moon, Sturgeon Moon, or one of the autumn Harvest Moons. Traditionally, bears spend a lot of time catching big fish, pulling them out of rivers and leaving their carcasses to rot and become compost under the trees and among the autumn leaves.

The cards I pulled for this particular September New Moon are these:

Nutmeg: Justice, Travel, Good Fortune, journey, movement, attraction.

Horse Chestnut: Consideration

A blank card from The Druid Plant Oracle: The future is unwritten.

The Herbal Tea Magic Oracle deck by Elsie Wild is one of my favorites these days. The NUTMEG card suggests that “Good vibes are here, and I’m not just saying that because I just had a Pumpkin Spice Laté, but because nutmeg is one lucky nut… well, seed. Nutmeg has always been associated with good fortune, especially while traveling.” If you’re looking for justice, it’s coming, though you may have to plant the seeds and nurture the outcome you want.

Seeds and spices often travel long distances to reach our gardens and kitchen tables. And it’s our job to search for them. To nurture them. Don’t be afraid to try new things, taste new flavors. Our communities and our stomachs are only strong and healthy when we don’t get lazy and rely on the same one meal or one friend over and over. You may not be ready to spread your wings and jump into a new project or a new community quite yet, but consider planting those seeds now. Spend the autumn and winter nurturing yourself and your community. Diversify. Grow bold.

The Wisdom of the Trees Oracle by Jane Struthers is an old favorite, too. The HORSE CHESTNUT card is all about slow growth and careful consideration. Everything you come across has more than one use, more than one purpose. Consider many different perspectives and options before you make your judgement. “Be particularly careful not to assess other peoples’ actions at a superficial level.”

There is more than one way to mix peanut butter. There are many ways to water a garden, too. Just because someone doesn’t do things the way you do them doesn’t make their way wrong. Just because you’ve always done things a certain way doesn’t mean it’s the best way forward, either. Consider why someone chooses to do things the way that they do. It will help you have a greater, more positive impact when you offer suggestions or chose your own next-steps forward.

Blessings on your Journey, Friend.

The Sight

Whether you’re saying them, thinking them, or screaming into the void– Words Matter. As a self-appointed word nerd, I’ve spent many hours considering the various meanings of words like psychic, seer, oracle, clairvoyant, clairaudio, empath, medium, energy healer… so many words!

What I notice most is that certain words carry some pretty heavy expectations with them. When someone tells you they’re psychic, you expect them to know a who lot of personal and private information in great detail. You expect them to have all the answers, too. For myself, the day I successfully predict million dollar lottery numbers? That’s the day I’ll call myself a psychic.

So what am I? What does it mean that I often experience other peoples’ emotions, trace the energy of their individual life journey, see how they carry emotional energy in their body, predict the challenges and opportunities they are likely to encounter if they don’t make some changes in the way they live their life? What does it mean that the dead speak to me? How do I explain that I can see and interpret energy fields?

I’ve tried on a lot of labels and professional titles over the years since I “went pro” in 2008. Before that, my abilities were just these weird things that happened to me whether I wanted them or not. Now, I have office hours. Healthy boundaries to help me navigate all the extra senses and hidden information and unseen visitors that used to constantly bombard me. Back when nobody knew what an empath was, or a life coach, or an energy worker. I had all the titles before they were cool.

And honestly, thinking about it that way makes me laugh. Because the one thing I’ve never claimed to be is mainstream cool.

The one constant is that I see my work as a bridge– a way to connect the living and the dead, a way to connect the person and the knowledge they need to move their life forward in a good way. I build healing bridges of pure spiritual energy. And anytime I’m not doing my job, my guides and guardians, helpers and ancestors tend to get kinda loud. I have work to do in this world.

Do you see what I see? Do you want to? Let’s talk.

Pondering the New Year

Usually, I pick a theme word or a mantra to focus on. It’s less intimidating than actual goals, and I’m more likely to use a word or mantra as a yardstick when I’m making decisions or setting the tone for “now what” moments. Past themes have included “Simplify,” “Gently,” and “Joyfully.” One year I even made a whole list of about fifty meaningful words, and then narrowed them down to a list of five. That was pretty epic.

This year, I have a list of four areas of my life that I’d like to focus on. When I have energy, time, spoons, this is what I want to pick up and grow into:

  • My Crafts
including this blog, and maybe writing more sections of my romance novel world
  • Simplifying and De-Stressing my Life
and my lifestyle and also my messy piles of STUFF
  • Loving and Supporting my Community
ironically, I’m slowly learning that this means sharing more updates about me, too
  • Being Seen and Heard
I find this very scary, actually, so it’s an area of my life I’d like to breathe into this year.

So that’s me in 2025. I’d love to hear from you about your goals or words or growth, and where you hope the year will take you. Here’s a link to the comments area, and also a link to send me an email. Fair warning: I haven’t tested these links yet, so if you don’t hear back, I AM SO SORRY PLEASE TRY AGAIN. And thanks for being here in this strange new world, with all it’s lingering old problems, with me. Let’s breathe into the possibilities together.
